Oldham Athletic
Relegated out of the football League. I had always despised them for beating us to the Football League Second Division on the last day on 1990-91 season. Even Bonzo said he was gutted not to go up as Champions since we were running away in the league for most of the season.

No love lost that the have gone down. Now they the first former Premier League team to drop into non-league since its creation in 1992. What a comedown!

Coincidentally.. Oldham are Frankfurts English club of choice, believe it or not.

Re: Oldham Athletic
We battered them in the second leg as well and should have won more than 3-0.

The season they pipped us to the title didn’t we play up there on a bank holiday drawing 1-1. They got a dodgy penalty? Lost to Notts County last game as well which cost us.

Plastic pitch
Dodgy last minute penalties
Valentines day

Frankly I'd forgotten they existed, but I shed no tears for the above reasons

Re: Oldham Athletic
Gary Neville tweeted to the effectof how sad it was Oldham were relegated and blaming their board.

Ironic that his moneybags pet project team that none of their peers can compete with financially and are artificially rising through the divisions displacing other clubs like Oldham are the ones that put the final nail in the coffin.

Oldham might have s shit owner ruining their club, but Salford City are doing their own fair bit of damage to the game at low levels as well.

Re: Oldham Athletic
I'm sure Jonathan Pearce on Capital Gold said West Ham are Champions... and then a minute later, oh penalty at Sheffield Weds means Oldham have won it... dodgy as fuck well into injury time. I was gutted, took the shine off the season a little bit.

Went to the semi final and as everyone knows was a horror story, went to the away game in the league aswell and although the result wasn't as bad the performance certainly was

Jimm. Our stadium announcer told everyone we were champions when we went on the pit h at the end... then had to backtrack and took all.the jam out of our doughnuts

Re: Oldham Athletic
I seem to remember an endless succession of goals which came off that pitch in the pouring rain in an odd way.

Without the rain and the pitch, we, as others have said, beat them 3-0

Re: Oldham Athletic
The away leg at Oldham was absolutely horrendous for many reasons. I remember walking down the away terrace steps just as the match kicked off and we conceded within a minute before I’d even taken up a place!

The rain, open away end, their braying fans and the bloody plastic pitch was a horror show
One of our lot did a strip tease in the stand as the rain poured down, which at least raised a laugh.

But worse was yet to come. The trip home in the football special ended up with us being shunted into a siding at Stockport, which meant that we were stuck there for about 2 hours or so. I remember finally getting back to Kings Cross, or Euston, whichever it was, at about 4am in the morning, totally soaked through, so, for me, I’m not unhappy in the slightest that they have been relegated from League 2 😂

Re: Oldham Athletic
Ha put this on the other thread.

I did not shed a tear. They cost me some of my most miserable days as a west ham fan.

Losing 6-0’in the cup and few tears later pipping us to the league title. A dodgy last minute penalty.

I am sure they also got a very dodgy penalty in the 1-1 at their place late in the season .

Hopefully the plastic pitch was destroyed .

They had a decent side back then and beat lots of the big boys on the drastic plastic.
A carpet laid on concrete. Not the 4g you see today.
